Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • Beachley Vessel in Distress 07-06-19

    Beachley and Sharpness Lifeboat Crews tasked at 11:38 to reports of a vessel in distress between Chepstow and Avonmouth. An update was that the vessel had capsized throwing its occupant into the water.
    SARA Lifeboats 1, 2 and 4 were deployed and worked alongside Chepstow Coastguard, RNLI Portishead, RNLI Barry Dock and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter to search the area.
    The casualty had managed to self rescue and the rescue helicopter landed to assess the patient before transferring him to hospital, with the lifeboat assets standing down.

  • Slimbridge 03-06-19

    Land Search Teams from SARA Tewkesbury, Beachley and Wyre Forest, and a boat team from SARA Sharpness were called out just after 11am to support Gloucestershire Police searching for a missing 79-year old man near Slimbridge.
    As the teams started their searches, the man was spotted by a police helicopter. A SARA Casualty Care Team was despatched and reached the casualty on foot, before the vehicles could make their way to the scene through the maze of ditches and field boundaries.
    Working with the police, our Casualty Carer was able to attend to the elderly man. The team evacuated him by stretcher and then by SARA landrover back to ‘Search Control’ where he was handed over to an NHS ambulance and where family members were waiting.
    We wish him a speedy recovery!

  • M4 Second Severn Crossing 01-06-19 20:00

    Immediate page received at 1923hrs to assist with an incident on the M48 bridge.
    SARA Lifeboats 1, 2 and 4 were launched and both proceeded to the target area to conduct detailed searches with Portishead and Penarth RNLI lifeboats, Coastguard helicopter Rescue 187, and HM coastguard teams. Crews were stood down after approx 3 hours of searches with nothing found.

  • Kayakers at Purton 1-06-19 17:16

    Immediate page received at 1716hrs to launch to assist two kayakers spotted close to the ship wrecks near Purton. On arrival, SARA Rescue 12 determined the persons were in no immediate danger, stood down and returned to station

  • Worcester 28-05-19

    Called out by police at 20:58 to assist in the search for a missing person in Worcester, with a concern for welfare. Following a briefing with West Mercia Police, land and water teams from SARA Wyre Forest and Tewkesbury, deployed to the RV Point to commence the search planning and team deployment.
    During this time, the missing person was seen by camera operators and the police quickly located them.
    Crews were stood down at 23:30 before returning back to their respective stations

  • Sharpness 26-05-19

    SARA Sharpness tasked to Motor Cruiser reporting Engine Room fire after leaving Sharpness Dock.
    SARA Lifeboat 2 was launched; information was then received that the cruiser had re-docked in Sharpness Lock, where what was thought to be fire was found to be smoke coming from a broken pipe in engine room. The vessel made its way through the dock back to the Gloucester Sharpness Canal to moor up for rectification of the fault.

  • Severn Beach 25-05-19

    SARA Lifeboat 1 was launched to the aid of 2 fishermen. RNLI Portishead were all launched and were closer, they rescued the fishermen who were unharmed.

  • Over, Gloucester. 23-05-2019

    Sharpness teams received an immediate tasking at 2018hrs from the Coastguard to assist with a person at risk at Over Bridge. Whilst en route, the person was secured by the police and our teams were stood down.

  • Gloucester, 19-05-2019

    At 02:30 Sharpness crew received an immediate tasking from the coastguard to a person in the water at Gloucester. Crews attended scene and the individual was taken into police custody. Crews were stood down at 03:16

  • Cirencester, 11 May 2019

    Land and Swiftwater rescue teams were called out at 2142 by Gloucestershire Constabulary to help in the search for a Missing Person In the Cirencester area. Shortly after the crews arrived at the Rendezvous point, the missing person was located by the police and is currently receiving the appropriate care.
    Our teams were then stood down at 2338
