Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • Sandhurst Lane, Gloucester 02-03-20

    A flood team from SARA Tewkesbury was deployed to conduct welfare checks on Sandhurst Lane, Gloucester. They also dropped off vital supplies as requested.

  • Floods Welfare Checks 01-03-20

    A flood team from SARA Wyre Forest deployed to Bewdley around 11am to assist HWFRS with welfare checks on flooded residents.
    Later a combined team from SARA WF and Tewkesbury deployed to Severn Stoke to do a similar task

  • Gloucester Land Search Callout 28-02-20

    Land Search Teams from SARA Tewkesbury, Beachley and Wyre Forest Stations were called out shortly before 6am, to reports of a vulnerable missing young person in the Gloucester area.
    Thankfully before too long the Police reported that he had been found and crews were stood down before arrival on scene.

  • M4 Bridge 27-02-20

    Both SARA Beachley lifeboats were launched shortly after 1730, to reports of an incident on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.
    After a time it appeared that this had been a false alarm with good intentions; the boats were stood down by 1900 and recovered back at Beachley

  • Severn Flooding Response 26-02-20

    The Severn continues to be at flood level. During the day our SARA Upton team was helping to conduct welfare checks in their area, and SARA Wyre Forest had a team in Bewdley doing similar work. Overnight the individual crew members were rotated and a combined Wyre Forest / Sharpness Team was on standby duty at Bewdley until about 2am.
    Other team members at other stations were on standby at home in case of a larger flood emergency, and our callout coordinators were in touch with the national coordination cell.

  • Severn Beach 19-02-20

    SARA Lifeboat 3 ‘Swift and Bold’ was launched shortly after 11pm. We were tasked by the Coastguard for an urgent search in the Severn Beach area.
    RNLI Portishead was also deployed. The Coastguard Helicopter 187 was also deployed and was able to rescue the casualty and transfer them to an NHS land ambulance. The SARA Lifeboat was accordingly stood down around midnight.

  • Storm Dennis Flood Response Day 5: Thurs 20-02-20

    SARA Sharpness deployed a flood rescue team to help GFRS evacuation residents of Sandford Lane, Gloucester.
    A SARA Tewkesbury Team conducted welfare deliveries in Tewkesbury and then also in Sandhurst Lane.

  • Storm Dennis Flood Response Day 4: Thurs 19-02-20

    SARA Beachley and Newport Flood Teams were deployed to Monmouth again, conducting welfare visits to folk whose homes have been flooded, together with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
    Teams from SARA Wyre Forest and Tewkesbury were deployed in the evening north of Bewdley Rail Bridge for house searches.
    Due to the concerns, the Wyre Forest Team returned to Bewdley overnight, with the emergency services to help with further monitoring.
    Team members from SARA Upton team were also out locally conducting welfare visits during the flooding

  • Storm Dennis Flood Response Day 3: Tues 18-02-20

    SARA Beachley deployed a flood team on an immediate callout to Bigsweir, to assist with the rescue of a lady who had been on the roof of her car all night. Together with locals and then SWFRS she was transported to a road ambulance (by coincidence also crewed by a SARA member).
    The Beachley team was stood down but then re-deployed to Monmouth, via Whitchurch.
    SARA Newport also deployed a flood team to Newport, where they and the Beachley team conducted welfare visits to flooded residents.
    SARA Tewkesbury deployed a flood team to Whitchurch to assist with evacuating a care home. Then deployed to Hereford area, stood down on arrival.
    SARA Sharpness again deployed a flood team to Lower Lydbrook. Then tasked directly to Tewkesbury to deliver pumps to Lower Lode Inn.
    SARA Wyre Forest deployed a team to Bewdley to assist HWFRS standing by in case the Severn breached the barriers.

  • Storm Dennis Flood Response Day 2: Mon 17-02-20

    SARA Upton Station had a flood team supporting West Mercia Police, and rescued a couple from a car.
    SARA Sharpness had a team on standby in Gloucester; they deployed to Lydbook and supported welfare visits by NHS nurses
    SARA Wyre Forest deployed a team to Hampton Bishop, Hereford (supported by SARA Tewkesbury) to perform welfare checks on residents in areas cut off by flood water and evacuation of residents whose home was marooned in flood water and had lost power.
    SARA Tewkesbury delivered WF DEFRA boats to Hereford Fire Station, and then had a team on standby in Tewkesbury.
