Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • Severn at Slimbridge 23-06-21

    At 1815hrs, we received a page for an immediate launch to assist Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service with a search of the River Severn near Slimbridge.
    Thankfully, a group of crew were already on station at SARA Sharpness when the call came in, completing their RYA First Aid course, and so were on the water within minutes…
    As the lifeboats were en route to the last known location, additional information was received, informing crew that they were searching for a cow believed to be in the river.
    Working alongside the Fire Service and Gloucestershire Police, 3 lifeboats from Sharpness conducted a search of the river.
    With nothing found, and water levels dropping, crew were stood down and all boats were recovered at 2142hrs.

  • Beachley 23-06-21

    This morning at 11.15 Gwent Police asked us for assistance after reports of a person in an unsafe location on the M48 bridge.
    SARA Lifeboat 3 launched and held at Beachley slip to assist if needed. After the person was confirmed safe by police at approx 1300, our lifeboat recovered and made ready for return to service.

  • Usk at Caerwent 21-06-21

    This afternoon we were tasked by South Wales Fire and Rescue to assist them with a cow stuck in the river usk near the Celtic Manor golf course.
    As crews were mobilising to launch the Gwent Lifeboat, the cow had mooooooved to safety and we stood down.

  • Oldbury Sands 14-06-21

    The SARA Lifeboats were launched again today (3rd time in 3 days), shortly after 1830, to attend to a jetski stranded on Oldbury Sands.
    SARA Lifeboat 3 attended first, and found one of the two persons to be feeling the cold. She was put into one of the thermal suits we carry, and was then taken back to Beachley on SARA Lifeboat 1 where she was looked after by HM Coastguard Chepstow.
    SARA lifeboat 3 meanwhile helped the second person to refloat the jetski, and escorted him back to Beachley under his own power.

  • Beachley 13-06-21

    The SARA Beachley team had a shout during a Sunday lifeboat training session. The Beachley slipway area was very busy with launching leisure craft, one of which suffered an engine breakdown shortly after leaving the slipway. The signals for help were seen by the Beachley ops room crew who alerted the lifeboat crew who were doing first aid training in the boat bay.
    SARA Lifeboat 1 was swiftly launched and was with the stricken boat within 5 minutes, taking it in tow and safely returning it and the 3 people on board to Beachley slipway where other SARA crew and Chepstow Coastguard officers were waiting to assist further.

  • River Severn (Middle Grounds) 12-06-21

    At 1625hrs the team received a page from Milford Haven Coastguard regarding a vessel in need of immediate help over Newport ‘Middle grounds’ on the Severn Estuary, and the team responded with SARA Lifeboat 14. Also en route to the incident were RNLI Portishead in an Atlantic Lifeboat, and SARA Lifeboat 3 from SARA Beachley.
    With the larger RNLI boat at the scene and managing the situation, both SARA Lifeboats were stood down. The RNLI put the vessel under tow and both the boat and the crew were rescued without incident.

  • Sedbury, Chepstow 08-06-21

    Not long after SARA 3 had been recovered and turned around, at 15.52 we were tasked by Gloucestershire Police to search for a missing person in area o Sedbury Cliffs, on the Severn. The NPAS police helicopter and a police dog team had been unable to locate a missing lady.

    Personnel from SARA Tewksbury and Chepstow Coastguard were also deployed and a trailing dog team from Serve On Search and Rescue Dogs was en route, when the missing person was located safe and well by the SARA team.

  • Sudbrook 08-06-21

    Gwent Police called at 1258 concerning a person reported to be stuck in the mud in the Sudbrook area. Following liaison with ChepstowCoastguard, SARA Lifeboat 3 launched to the area of POW Bridge. Continuing liaison with Coastguard indicated that the people involved were beach combing and were not in danger.
    A false alarm with good intentions; SARA 3 was stood down and returned to Beachley.

  • Shrivenham 04 & 05-06-21

    In the early hours of Friday morning, Tewkesbury Land Search teams were requested to assist our colleagues at Oxfordshire Lowland Rescue in the search for a missing lady near Swindon. SARA Crews were on scene until evening. Despite reports of potential sightings from members of the public, the missing lady was not found.
    Crews continued searching on Saturday to support ALSAR teams, which by this time now numbered approximately 105 search personnel from across the region with further crews arriving from Warwickshire Search and Rescue and Shropshire Search and Rescue.
    We are pleased to report that as Saturday drew to a close, the missing lady was found alive by a member of the public.

  • Bromsgrove 31-05-21

    Around 1030pm teams from Tewkesbury and Wyre Forest were deployed to Bromsgrove to support West Mercia Police with a search. Thanks fully the missing person was located safe and well by 11.30pm and our teams could be stood down.
