Incidents

We are tasked by the emergency services, including HM Coastguaard, Fire & Rescue, Police and the Ambulance Services. Our teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Below are the callouts that we have attended.

  • Leckhampton 26-09-21

    Crews were tasked at just after 5am to assist Gloucestershire Police with a search for a person believed to have fallen from height in the Cheltenham area. Crews from SARA Tewkesbury, Beachley and Cotswolds stations quickly responded to locate the person and upon doing so, provided casualty care.

    Due to the remote area and the nature of the incident, the casualty was carried out by stretcher to HMCG Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 187, which airlifted them to hospital.

    We were also joined by colleagues from South West Ambulance Service including their HART Hazardous Area Rescue Team.

  • Oldbury 24-09-21

    This morning as we were starting a planned VIP visit to SARA Beachley, the Coastguard called up and asked us to launch to a capsized vessel off Oldbury – we could see the vessel from our balcony.

    We launched SARA Lifeboat 1 and headed directly to it across the river.
    The vessel was a wooden dinghy, unattended as the sailor had earlier made his way safely ashore. It was recovered to Thornbury Sailing Club and Lifeboat 1 returned to Beachley.

    This was SARA Beachley’s fourth callout this week, with several volunteers attending two or three of them and one all four.

  • Tutshill 22-09-21

    The SARA rope team were called this evening to support Gloucestershire Police with a developing incident in the Lower Wye Valley.
    The team swiftly assembled nearby, but thankfully did not need to deploy.

  • River Severn Beachley 21-09-21

    In the early morning Gloucestershire Constabulary asked for our assistance after a report of a person in the water near the M48 Severn Bridge. SARA Beachley launched SARA Lifeboats 1, and 3 and SARA Sharpness launched SARA Lifeboat 2. After several hours the crews were stood down with nothing found.

    In the early afternoon the lifeboats relaunched at low water and sadly located a body which was recovered to Beachley.
    The family of the person have been informed and our thoughts are with the person’s family and friends.

  • Parkend 13-09-21

    We were called at 5am to assist South West Ambulance Service to extract a person who had become unwell in woodland near Parkend in the Forest of Dean. Team members from SARA Beachley, Tewkesbury and Cotswold responded, and the casualty was swiftly transported to the ambulance.

    We wish him a speedy recovery.

  • Lower Gornal, Dudley 12-09-21

    Today crew from SARA Wyre Forest were deployed by West Midlands Police to assist with a missing person investigation in the Lower Gornal area near Dudley.
    Also in attendance were West Mercia Search & Rescue and Warwickshire Search & Rescue.
    During the search, one of our crew located a body. After further police investigation, the assembled teams were able to recover the gentleman in a dignified manner.
    The thoughts of the crew are with the friends and family.

  • River Severn M4 PoW Bridge 12-09-21

    This (Sunday) afternoon, Gloucestershire Constabulary asked us to to conduct a low tide shore search at the base of the PoW Bridge as part of an ongoing missing person search. SARA Lifeboat 3 launched late afternoon. 3 crew members went ashore to conduct searches at the eastern side of the bridge. Having found nothing, SARA 3 returned to Beachley after having waited for a safe depth of water.

  • River Severn M4 POW Bridge 12-09-21

    SARA Lifeboat 3 was launched this afternoon to assist the Police and Coastguard with a low water search in the area of the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge. Nothing was found and the boat was recovered 3 hours after launching.

  • Sandwell Valley 08-09-21

    We were called our this morning by West Midlands Police, to assist with a missing person search in the Sandwell Valley area. Crew from SARA Wyre Forest and Tewkesbury Stations responded, along with searchers from West Mercia Search & Rescue and Staffordshire Search and Rescue Team.

    After a long day searching in some heavily over grown areas, we are pleased to report that the missing person was safely located during the evening by police, outside of our search area.

    Thank you to all those that attended and it was another example of some great multiagency working.

  • Chepstow 28-08-21

    Shortly before 0300 we were called to reports of a person in the water near the Old Wye Bridge on the River Wye in Chepstow. We launched two of our lifeboats, SARA 3 from Beachley and SARA 14 SARA Newport Lifeboat Station, which had just been stood down from a callout in Newport whilst on the road.

    The person was rescued from the water by SARA Lifeboat 14, and handed over to the ambulance service at Beachley slip for treatment.
