• It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and team member Malcolm Bradley on Sunday evening, following a short illness.
Malcolm was a SARA member at Beachley for 10 years, serving as the station medical manager, as a radio operator manning the Operations Room, supporting fundraising events and recently also as a ‘Deputy Launch Authority’ (DLA) responsible for deploying appropriate assets to a callout. He supported many lifeboat operations from the station Operations Room and his friendly voice on the radio or cheery smile in the station was always reassuring. Whatever he was asked, the reply would be ‘Yep, no problem’, and that’s a big part of how we will all remember him. Friendly, helpful, a true gentleman who was proud to be a member of SARA.
Malcolm was a true volunteer, who had served in St Johns Ambulance for 15 years before joining SARA, including as the Team Leader of the Coleford unit, and served as an NHS Community First Responder. He was also a keen music fan, active as a DJ, a radio enthusiast and was devoted to his mother.
We will miss him dearly, as a friend as well as a colleague.
    Stand down C64, stand down.

  • Today SARA has transitioned to being a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (‘Charity CIO’). This is a type of organisation which has been available since 2013 and allows the organisation itself to enter into contracts and hold property, rather than doing it in the names of the Trustees, and gives its members limited liability in the same was as being a limited company does for employees. Many other charities have already made this switch. Nothing is changing about what we do or how we do it, and we remain an organisation which is 100% volunteers. You’ll probably just notice that we have a new Charity Number, 1193634, which we will be using from now on.
We are now looking for suitably high calibre individuals from outside of SARA to join our Board of Trustees. If you would consider using your skills and experience to support voluntary search and rescue services as a SARA Trustee, please contact us on info@sara-rescue.org.uk for a recruitment pack.

  • Whilst not a SARA callout, at least 6 SARA members who are also members of Gloucestershire Cave Rescue Group were part of team which helped to rescue the injured caver in the longest duration ever cave rescue in Wales. Other SARA members were also involved in taking 8 oxygen cylinders, from SARA and from GCRG’s depot, to the location. Well done to all!

  • We are delighted to announce that the SARA Cotswolds Rescue Station is now open!

This new base will make a significant improvement to our ability to search for and find missing people in the Cotswolds and Eastern part of Gloucestershire. We’re very grateful to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service for making suitable facilities available and the team look forward to meeting and getting to know the local community over the coming months.

If you are able to support our new station, please visit their fundraising page www.justgiving.com/campaign/SARA-Cotswolds or if you are considering joining, get in touch using info@sara-rescue.org.uk!

You can follow news about the development of the station, and their operational callouts, at facebook.com/SARACotswolds
