Severn Boat Festival

SARA provided safety cover for the Severn Boat Festival held at Worcester from 29th-31st July. Crews from all stations attended the event with SARA 8 and SARA 10 on the water on the Friday and the 5.5 metre rib SARA 2 from Sharpness joined the team for the Saturday and Sunday.

A water rescue demonstration was carried out on each day using the Rapid Deployment Craft which is used mainly in swift water conditions, but on this occasion was the 'rescue craft' after a crew member had volunteered to be the 'man overboard' from one of the other SARA boats, leaving the third boat as 'safety boat' during the demonstration. On the final day, watching crowds were entertained with two rescue situations, the second retrieval being carried out by SARA 2.

Several SARA crew also took part in the dragon boat racing with four members trying their hand at paddling, but unfortunately were beaten by a stronger team.
