New SARA Statin for Wyre Forest
A new station will shortly come on line based in Wyre Forest to cover the West
Mercia Constabulary and adjoining force areas providing assistance to the police
and the other emergency services. The group were set a fundraising target of
£20,000 before they could stand independent of the Upton-upon-Severn Station
under which Wyre Forest crew had initially trained and been members of that
station. Permission was agreed by the membership at the recent SARA AGM for
the new station to go ahead.
A building is being donated on a site just outside Kidderminster for a nominal
'peppercorn' rent. Work is now underway to transform the building into an operational
Rescue Station.
SARA 10 (was Sara 4 based at Sharpness) has been handed over to Wyre Forest
as their first rescue boat. A Landrover 110 is being kindly donated by Severn
Trent Water which will be fitted out as a Search & Rescue Ambulance.
Members have been training at the other stations and Wyre Forest have operational
crew together with qualified Swift Water Rescue Technicians. There are also
members who will assist as ground and support crew and help out at fundraising
events.
As part of SARA's Mountain Rescue affiliation, members of this station will
be involved with land search operations as well as working jointly with the
other SARA stations on land search call-outs.
