SARA is very sad to announce the death of one of its long serving members. Dave Moore died on Wednesday after a long illness.
Dave was a very well liked and respected member of the SARA Sharpness team having been actively involved with the Station since its founding in 1986.
As a commercial river pilot with years of experience on the Severn Estuary he had a knowledge of the river that is very hard to equal. Over the years Dave, as a Senior Coxswain on board the SARA Sharpness boats, attended many callouts and spend many long hours helping others. He was also an excellent teacher and always keen to pass on his vast local knowledge to the newer members of the crew. He will be sorely missed by all SARA members.
His funeral is on Thursday of next week and Dave expressed a
wish that his ashes be scattered in the river, a job that SARA will carry out
with honour.
