SARA Big Bath Boat Race

Thursday night 19th September 2002, saw a very different boating operation to what SARA's normally used to, this being the Big Bath Boat Race.

A new Marketing Promotion Company called Hedgehogs chose SARA as their Charity, noting their client Chatsworth Bathrooms were sponsoring the event and companies were contacted all over the Worcester area and we ended up with over 20 teams being entered from a variety of Worcester area companies, even including a local Bank and our local main Insurance Brokers.

The Boat Race took place in the local main swimming pool at Worcester and involved custom made small baths able to carry 2 people (just about) and the object was to hand paddle across the pool ideally without sinking.

I have to say that buoyancy was a major problem and a considerable number of the crews joined the sub-mariner division of the Navy, noting that we had Worcester Divers on hand to provide the safety aspect and I am pleased to report there were no accidents, problems etc.

It was a fairly riotous night and the end product was £877.00 towards SARA's funds.

They are planning a further Bath Race this being out on the River Severn, provisionally planned for next March, this time involving slightly bigger baths and considering doubling up to Catamaran style.

SARA are grateful to all who participated and the tremendous effort that was put into the operation.
