SARA Beachley Station

  • SARA's first purpose built lifeboat station.

  • Beachley station houses three inshore rescue boats, SARA 1, SARA 3, and SARA 5.

  • Land Search / Boat Launch Vehicle also on Station.

SARA Beachley Station

SARA's Beachley station is situated under the Severn Bridge on the spur of land between the Rivers Severn and Wye. It is ideally located to cover the water between Sharpness to the north, down to Avonmouth and Newport in the south. The Rivers Avon, Usk and Wye are all part of the operational area.

A Boat haulage and land search vehicle are also stationed here. It is used to launch boats via means of the slipway located alongside the station. The slipway was originally used by the Car Ferries that operated at Beachley before the building of the Severn Bridge.

Beachley Slipway

The station also houses all the equipment used by both the boat crews and the land search teams. The majority of the Beachley crew are multi-discipline, being trained in both boat rescue and land search.

Items such as radar and radio communication equipment are heavily utilised. Beachley is reasonably well equipped with these essential items.
